Quebec's vast forests and northern coastline frame three portraits of people carrying on old traditions in new forms. Audrey Beauchemin traded an art and business education in Montreal for Minganie, the sparsely populated northern shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence reachable mainly by seaplane, where she has chosen a life of near-total isolation. Michel Béland, a trapper who grew up among the Atikamekw, opens beaver trapping season in the forests of Mauricie, following the trade of the historic "White Indians" who bridged Native and settler fur trading in New France. Alain Carabinier, a Swiss immigrant of thirty years, and his son Antoine appear through Cirque Alfonse, the family circus troupe whose show "Timber" turns lumberjack legend and logging-camp lore into performance. The film moves between seaplane flights over Minganie, trapping scenes in Mauricie's forests, and circus rehearsals, using each story to trace how Quebec's wilderness culture survives, adapts, and gets restaged for new audiences.
