Winter storms batter the Azores, a volcanic archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic, and this episode follows three islanders who live with the ocean rather than against it. On Flores, young sailor Mauro takes his boat out into rough seas despite the season's danger. On another island, Joao straps into a paraglider and launches himself over volcanic slopes whenever the wind allows, chasing views most locals never see from that angle. On Pico, the archipelago's highest point, Nilton climbs toward the summit for a vantage over the surrounding water that puts the scale of the islands into perspective. The film moves between these three lives without much narration, letting the landscape and the work itself carry the story: fishing boats pitching in swells, paraglider wings catching wind above craters, switchback trails up Pico's cone. It's a portrait of a remote European territory shaped entirely by the sea and the mountains rising out of it, told through the people who navigate both for a living or for love of the place.
