The Stemat Spirit is a cable-laying ship tasked with connecting an offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea to the power grid serving homes and businesses in Northwest England, a job scheduled to take three months. The film follows the crew as they run cable across the seabed while contending with high seas, ferocious winds, and the constant risk of damaged equipment, work that has to happen both on land, where cables come ashore, and out on open water. Engineers and crew explain the ship's specialized gear, described as "rule-breaking" for a vessel of its kind, and the sequences on deck show the physical scale of the cable spools and the machinery needed to bury lines safely below the seafloor. The Irish Sea's currents and weather make an otherwise ideal wind-farm location one of the harder places to actually build in, and the film tracks how the crew adapts its schedule and technique to keep the multi-million-dollar operation on track despite repeated setbacks from the conditions.
