Tornado Alley cuts through the central United States, and this film follows the storm chasers who drive into it on purpose. More than a thousand tornadoes touch down across the country each year, and the plains states of Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas take the worst of them, flat open ground with nothing to slow a funnel down once it forms. The film shows chase vehicles closing in on developing cells, radar and spotter footage tracking multiple twisters forming within sight of each other, and the aftermath in towns left in their path. It pairs the chasers' fascination with the storms against the survival stories of people who lived through a direct hit, treating both as part of the same landscape.
