Strain Hunters
Cannabis landraces, the wild, untouched strains still growing in some of the world's poorest and most remote regions, are the target of this expedition series from the Strain Hunters team. Arjan and his crew set out from Green House Seeds' base in the Netherlands to track down plants that have never been catalogued by science, arguing that their unstudied cannabinoid profiles could matter for future medicine. The series picks up after a 2008 trip to Malawi, with the team plotting a shortlist of destinations chosen for their reputation among growers and breeders. Footage follows the physical work of finding and collecting samples in places with no local infrastructure for scientific research, and the plants gathered are bred into better-known medicinal strains back home for further study. The tone stays close to a travel expedition, heavy on logistics and local conditions, while making the case that these landraces are disappearing and worth preserving before they are gone for good.
