In 1992, William Ford Jr. was shot dead on Long Island by a white mechanic who claimed self-defense; a grand jury never indicted him. Filmmaker Yance Ford, William's younger sibling, returns to that case more than two decades later, sitting for extended interviews with his mother, surviving family, and his own reflection filmed in tight, unflinching close-up. Home movies and family photographs reconstruct William as a person rather than a case file, a teacher-in-training with a temper and a future, while police reports and grand jury records are read against what the family remembers of how investigators treated them. Ford narrates in a measured, deliberate voice, tracing how the killing reshaped his family and his own sense of self over the years that followed. The film moves between the specifics of one unresolved case and the broader pattern it sits inside, of black victims whose deaths get explained away before they are examined. It ends without resolution, because the case itself never got one.
