Evariste, from Burkina Faso, spent five years picking fruit in Italy before discrimination and insecurity pushed him back; he now runs a fitness studio and leads discussion groups where he tries to warn young people about the realities of migrant life abroad, though most refuse to believe him. Annie, born in Italy to Liberian parents, sings in the duo PepeSoup with her boyfriend, mixing African rhythms with European sounds, and wants to visit Liberia to help build the country her parents left. Binata, a trained accountant from Senegal, braids hair on a Spanish beach because no accounting jobs are open to her, ashamed of the work but unable to give up the money she sends home. The camera follows each of them between two lives, weighing the shame and hardship of Europe against the pull, and risk, of going back.
