Teotihuacán rises northeast of modern Mexico City as one of the largest cities of the ancient world, so vast that the Aztecs who found it centuries after its abandonment assumed only gods could have built it. Archaeologists walk the site explaining how the Pyramid of the Sun was raised from more than a million cubic meters of rock without metal tools or draft animals, using only stone hammers, ramps, and organized labor. The film follows excavations at the Pyramid of the Moon, where researchers uncovered evidence of ritual beheadings tied to the city's religious life, and descends into a sealed tunnel beneath the Feathered Serpent temple where offerings including jade, shells, and jaguar remains sat undisturbed for nearly two thousand years. Experts piece together how a city that once housed over 100,000 people, and dominated trade and politics across Mesoamerica, collapsed and burned centuries before the Aztecs arrived. No one is certain who actually founded or ruled it, and the film treats that gap as the real mystery rather than papering over it.
