The Art of Glitch

2012 · EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Glitch art turns technological failure into an aesthetic movement, and this film looks at the artists who deliberately corrupt images, sound, and video to make something new out of malfunction. Scrambled JPEGs, frozen blue screens, and garbled audio signals, normally the marks of a broken computer, become raw material, and the film interviews practitioners about why they chase these accidents on purpose rather than fix them. It traces glitch art's roots in circuit-bending and datamoshing, showing how artists manipulate file formats and hardware to force errors that look intentional. The film treats the glitch as a visual language with its own history, connecting early video art experiments to contemporary digital artists who exhibit corrupted media in galleries. Rather than framing malfunction as something to avoid, it makes the case that the moment a system breaks is also the moment something genuinely new appears on screen, and lets the artists' own scrambled, colorful work make that argument visually.
