The Assyrians: Empire of Iron

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Long before Rome or Persia, the Assyrians built one of the ancient world's most feared powers out of a single Mesopotamian city-state. This film traces that rise from around 2100 BC, when Assyria was a modest trading settlement on the Tigris, to roughly 1400 BC, by which point it had grown into an empire that dominated the region. The title points to what set Assyria apart: iron. As bronze gave way to iron weapons and tools, Assyrian armies gained an edge in siege warfare and open battle that older powers could not match. The film follows that military and technological shift alongside the political consolidation that let a city-state absorb its neighbors and hold territory across Mesopotamia. It is a straightforward historical account, built around the transition from small kingdom to imperial power, with iron itself treated as the hinge on which that transformation turned.
