Cleopatra ruled as Egypt's last Pharaoh, and her tomb has never been found. This History Hit production traces her rise through a dynasty built on family murder, her alliances with Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, and the political maneuvering that kept Egypt independent of Rome for as long as it did. The film uses location footage from Egypt alongside historians who lay out the physical evidence, or lack of it, for where she might actually be buried, weighing candidate sites against the ancient accounts of her death and burial. Along the way it covers the assassination of Caesar, the naval defeat at Actium, and the succession of Ptolemaic rulers who killed siblings and spouses to hold the throne before Cleopatra ever took it. Rather than treating her as a romantic legend, the film builds a case for her as a calculating survivor operating in an empire that was consuming smaller kingdoms whole, and closes on the unresolved question of her final resting place.
