Brian Fey buys a plot of land above Lake Pátzcuaro in Michoacán, Mexico, in 2004 and spends the years after building a community meant to run on permaculture and natural farming rather than the grid. The film follows him through an ordinary day at the Bosque village, where solar panels supply power, rainwater harvesting systems supply water, and food comes from beds fertilized with compost instead of store-bought inputs. Fey lives on the land with his family and a small group of residents who share the work of growing crops, maintaining the buildings, and keeping waste to a minimum through recycling and reuse. Art runs through the daily routine as much as farming does: murals cover the walls, furniture and clothing are handmade by residents, and music and dance are part of village life rather than separate from it.
