The Day My God Died

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Nepali girls as young as seven are sold by traffickers, smuggled across the border, and sold again into brothels in Bombay's red-light district. The film follows survivors who escaped or were rescued, tracing how poverty and deception in remote Himalayan villages feed a pipeline that ends in locked rooms and forced prostitution. Interviews with the girls themselves, now trying to rebuild lives in shelters and rehabilitation homes, sit alongside footage of the brothels and the aid workers and activists trying to intervene. Narration from Winona Ryder frames the testimony, but the girls carry the film, describing recruitment, sale, and the abuse that followed in their own words. The documentary also follows organizations working to reunite survivors with families and to prosecute traffickers, showing how difficult both efforts are in practice. It is a direct account of an ongoing trade, built on the testimony of the people it happened to rather than statistics or reenactment.
