Crystals have become a wellness and beauty staple: jade for courage, amethyst for concentration, rose quartz for love and stress relief. Social media influencers have driven demand for these stones into a full-blown boom, and this film traces that demand back to its source in the Global South, including the mines of Madagascar. Interviews and on-the-ground footage lay out who actually digs the quartz and gemstones that end up polished on a nightstand or sold as a self-care ritual, and under what conditions. The gap between the marketing, stones as symbols of calm and empowerment, and the labor behind them forms the film's central tension. Rather than treating gemstones as a niche curiosity, the film positions them as another extractive industry with the same ethical sourcing problems as diamonds or cobalt, just wrapped in softer branding. It asks what buyers are actually paying for when they buy a crystal, and who pays the real cost.
