The Boeing 737 MAX was sold as the safest, most efficient update to Boeing's best-selling airliner, and it sold faster than any plane in the company's history. Then, on 29th October 2018, Lion Air Flight 610 crashed into the Java Sea thirteen minutes after takeoff, killing all 189 people aboard. Less than five months later, an Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX went down six minutes after leaving Addis Ababa, killing all 157 on board. This film tracks both investigations through interviews with pilots, engineers, and crash investigators, using CGI reconstructions to show what happened in the cockpits during the final minutes of each flight. It builds the case against MCAS, the automated flight-control system Boeing added to compensate for the MAX's redesigned engines, and traces how a single faulty sensor reading could push both planes into fatal dives their pilots were never properly trained to counter. The film lays out the engineering decisions, regulatory shortcuts, and corporate pressures that turned a routine model update into two disasters.
