The eagle owl is the largest nocturnal bird of prey on the Iberian Peninsula, and the film follows one pair through a full breeding cycle using infrared cameras hidden inside their nest, built into a cliff face chosen to command a clear view of prey and predators alike. The owls mate for life, and the cameras catch the intimate mechanics of that partnership: incubation, feeding, and the slow education of chicks in a nest that never has to move because the site was chosen so well. High-speed cameras separately break down the owl's hunting flight, showing how a bird this size closes on prey without a sound. Around that central pair, the film widens out to the rest of the Iberian night shift, from foxes, wild boars, deer, and wolves to little owls, toads, and frogs, each species adapted to operate in darkness under the same rule of eating without being eaten. The eagle owl sits at the top of that arrangement, and the footage is built to show exactly why.
