Long before mammals existed, Earth was a molten sphere cooling into a crust, its atmosphere and oceans forming through processes this film traces step by step. The first part of a two-part series on the planet's deep history, it moves from that fiery beginning through the shifting of continents, the buildup of climate systems, and the slow emergence of plant and animal life, using the geology of German land as a recurring case study. Expect reconstructions of ancient landscapes, animated diagrams of crust formation and continental movement, and narration that walks through each era in sequence, from barren rock to the first forests and early animal lineages. The film builds toward the appearance of the first mammals, treating that moment as the hinge between the world it has just described and the one that follows in part two. It works as a primer on Earth's early geological and biological development, grounded in fairly conventional science-documentary craft: narration over footage, maps, and staged recreations rather than talking-head interviews.
