The Enemy in Brussels

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Right-wing populist parties have moved from the margins to the front benches of European politics, and this film asks what they actually want once they get there. It follows politicians and activists from Italy, France, and Germany who built careers campaigning against the European Union's institutions in Brussels, using interviews and footage from party rallies, parliamentary sessions, and campaign stops to trace how anti-EU rhetoric turned into electoral success. The film treats Brussels itself as a character, the bureaucratic target these movements define themselves against, and lets its subjects explain in their own words why they see the EU as illegitimate or overreaching. Rather than simply cataloging outrage, it tracks the tension between winning power inside a system and campaigning against that system's existence. The result is a portrait of a political current reshaping national governments and the European Parliament alike, told through the people driving it rather than through outside commentary alone.
