The Fall of Phoenix Jones
Phoenix Jones patrolled Seattle's streets in a black and gold bullet-proof suit, pepper spray on his belt, calling himself the city's Guardian. This film tracks his rise from internet curiosity to real-life superhero celebrity, then follows the arrests, lawsuits, and public unraveling that came with it. Interviews and news footage trace how a costumed vigilante became a minor media phenomenon, drawing imitators and skeptics alike, while police and bystanders question whether his brand of street justice ever did more good than harm. The suit and the swagger get plenty of screen time, but the film spends just as long on the legal trouble and personal fallout that followed him once the novelty wore off. What starts as a story about a masked crimefighter becomes a study of what happens when a publicity stunt turns into an actual identity, and what it costs the man underneath the mask to keep it going.
