Urbanization is reshaping the planet faster than infrastructure can keep up, and director Alex Klabin starts from an unglamorous baseline: in much of the developing world, progress means getting a toilet of your own instead of sharing one with dozens of neighbors. The film follows that thread outward, looking at how basic sanitation, housing, and services strain as populations pour into cities that were never built to hold them. Rather than staying in the abstract language of urban planning conferences, it keeps returning to the ground level, the daily mechanics of water, waste, and shelter that determine whether a city actually works for the people living in it. Researchers and planners weigh in on what growth without infrastructure produces, and the film treats the toilet not as a punchline but as a real measure of urban inequality. It is less a forecast of gleaming smart cities than an accounting of what still has to be solved before that future is possible for most of the world.
