The God Delusion (Root of All Evil?)

2006 · EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Richard Dawkins sets out to make the case that religious faith does more harm than good, traveling from an evangelical megachurch in Colorado Springs, where he interviews pastor Ted Haggard, to Jerusalem's holy sites and the shrine at Lourdes. He argues that teaching children to accept unquestioning belief primes them for extremism, and traces a line from that habit of mind to suicide bombings and sectarian violence. Along the way he sits down with rabbis, imams, and Christian leaders, pressing each on how literally they take their scripture and what happens when believers disagree. The film does not pretend to neutrality: Dawkins narrates in his own voice and treats the argument as settled before the credits roll, but it lets his interview subjects make their own case on camera rather than reducing them to caricature. Originally broadcast as part of Channel 4's Root of All Evil? series, it became the basis for the ideas Dawkins expanded into his bestselling book.
