Patricia Foulkrod's film follows young Americans who enlisted for the Iraq War, tracing the arc from recruitment offices and boot camp through combat deployment and back to civilian life. Interviews and footage show soldiers describing what drew them to sign up, what they saw and did in Iraq, and what happened when they came home to families and communities that often could not process what they'd been through. The film spends much of its second half on reintegration: veterans dealing with untreated psychological wounds, unemployment, and a Veterans Affairs system slow to respond, alongside a public largely disconnected from the war it was fighting. Several of the veterans become advocates, speaking publicly and counseling other returning soldiers rather than staying silent. The camera stays close on individual faces and stories rather than battle maps or strategy, treating the war's aftermath at home as its own unfinished campaign.
