The Hanging

15 MIN · EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Moscow's seven Stalin-era skyscrapers each carry a star at the top, and among the city's rooftop climbers, touching one is a mark of status. The film follows Kirill, nineteen, who has already touched five of the seven stars, scaling facades and cranes without permits or safety gear. He talks about dropping out of college out of boredom and about architecture as the thing that actually holds his attention, and the camera stays with him on ledges and girders hundreds of feet above Moscow traffic while he explains what draws him back up. The film treats the climbing plainly, as a subculture with its own scorecard and reputation system rather than as a stunt reel, and lets Kirill's own account of risk, boredom, and ambition carry the film. It is a short, close portrait of one climber and one city skyline, with the stars themselves functioning as a kind of unofficial leaderboard for the roofers who chase them.
