The answer was the Liberty Ship, a standardized, no-frills cargo vessel welded together on assembly lines instead of riveted by hand, built so fast and in such numbers that workers nicknamed it the Model T Ford of the ocean. The film traces how prefabrication, unskilled labor pools, and round-the-clock shifts let yards like Kaiser's turn out a finished ship in days rather than months, using archival footage of keel-layings, launch ceremonies, and the women and men who staffed the lines.
