The Jihadis Next Door

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

A Channel 4 documentary follows a group of British Islamist extremists in London, filming their street preaching, protests, and private conversations over several months. Central to the film is Abu Rumaysah, a former nightclub bouncer turned hardline preacher who later surfaces in an ISIS execution video, and the crew's footage of him before that moment gives the film its unsettling core. Cameras sit in on the men's recruitment efforts, their confrontations with police and passersby, and the domestic lives that continue alongside the ideology, including wives and children who appear on screen. The filmmakers press the men directly on their views of violence, the caliphate, and Britain, rather than letting the rhetoric go unchallenged, and the answers range from evasive to openly threatening. Interviews with former extremists and people who left the movement provide contrast, showing what pulled them out. The film stays close to its subjects without softening them, building a record of radicalization as it happens rather than reconstructing it after the fact.
