The Labour Files

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Jeremy Corbyn's rise to lead Britain's Labour Party in 2015 triggered an internal war that this Al Jazeera investigation reconstructs from thousands of leaked party documents, emails, and internal messages. The film follows how Labour headquarters staff, many opposed to Corbyn's politics, handled complaints of antisemitism within the party, and asks whether disciplinary cases were used as a weapon in a factional fight rather than resolved on their merits. Former staffers and party insiders describe a headquarters operating almost as a parallel power center, at times working against the elected leadership during the 2017 general election campaign. The documents at the center of the film include internal Labour communications never meant to become public, giving the investigation its access to conversations usually kept behind closed doors. Corbyn's supporters saw him as a rare authentic figure in British politics; his critics inside his own party saw a liability to be managed. The film sits inside that argument, tracing how bureaucracy, briefings, and leaked files shaped one of the most bitter internal disputes in modern Labour history.
