The Lost Book of Nostradamus

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

A forgotten manuscript found in Rome's library becomes the centerpiece of this look at the French seer's final, previously unpublished prophecies. The book contains roughly 80 watercolor images, painted not by Nostradamus himself but based on his visions, and historians and Nostradamus scholars walk through each painting trying to match its cryptic symbols to events still ahead of us. Interviews with researchers who have studied the original documents in the Vatican's archives anchor the speculation, while dramatized reenactments and period engravings fill in Nostradamus's life and the process by which his quatrains have long been read after the fact to fit history. The film treats the manuscript as a genuine historical artifact first, then lets the interpreters loose on it, weighing plague, war, and disaster imagery against modern headlines. It ends without resolving whether the images predict anything at all, leaving the viewer with the paintings themselves and the argument over what, if anything, they were meant to show.
