In summer 2007, archaeologists excavating a cemetery in Ireland uncover two skeletons among many, each with a large stone forced into the jaw. Every other burial on the site follows normal Christian practice, so the anomaly stands out immediately. The film follows the archaeologists as they work out who these people were, how they died, and why their community treated them differently after death, building toward the idea that they were buried as 'revenants,' corpses feared to rise and prey on the living. Historians walk through the medieval beliefs behind that fear, tracing the folklore that later hardened into the vampire myth. The film then jumps forward to modern Romania, where a villager describes watching his neighbours cut the heart out of a corpse they believed to be a vampire, showing the same anxieties surviving into living memory. Interviews with archaeologists and folklorists anchor the case, moving between the dig site, historical context, and present-day testimony to connect one unusual grave to a much older set of fears.
