The Pharmacratic Inquisition

The film argues that Christianity's origins lie not in a historical Jesus but in ancient entheogen cults that used psilocybin mushrooms, cannabis, and other sacred plants as sacraments. Drawing on the work of ethnomycologist Gordon Wasson and biblical scholar John Allegro, author of "The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross," narrator and researchers walk through etymological arguments, medieval church art that appears to hide mushroom imagery, and Dead Sea Scrolls scholarship to build the case that early religious ecstasy came from plant sacraments rather than doctrine. The second half turns to the Catholic Church's later campaigns against pagan plant medicine, framing witch trials and inquisitions as a systematic effort to erase this knowledge and monopolize spiritual authority. Interviews and narrated historical footage carry the argument, which sits well outside mainstream biblical scholarship and will read as fringe to most viewers. It is presented as a serious argument rather than a joke, with citations to specific texts and artworks throughout, and it makes its case with more research than the average conspiracy video.
