The Price of Honor

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Amina and Sarah Said were teenagers in Lewisville, Texas when their father, Yaser Said, shot them both to death in his taxi cab in 2008, calling it a matter of family honor. This film reconstructs the case through interviews with relatives, friends, and investigators who knew the sisters, tracing years of abuse inside the household before the killings and the manhunt that followed after Said fled and stayed missing for over a decade. Home photos and family video restore Amina and Sarah as people rather than case files, while the people closest to them describe the warning signs that went unheeded. The film treats the murders as part of a pattern rather than an isolated crime, situating the case within a broader discussion of honor-based violence against women and the difficulty law enforcement had recognizing it for what it was. It closes on the unresolved cost of that failure: two sisters dead and a family left to explain, again and again, how it happened.
