Britain joined the European Economic Community in 1972 as a free-trade arrangement, and this film traces how that agreement grew into the European Union it argues is now built like a federal state: one currency, one legal system, a joint military and police structure, and its own anthem. Independent author Phillip Day walks through that history and interviews EU insiders and political commentators who lay out competing views on where the institution is headed and what it means for national sovereignty. The film does not present itself as neutral; it is built around the claim that this consolidation of power was never put to voters directly and that its consequences for British citizens are largely unexamined by mainstream coverage. It also credits the EU with real achievements, pointing to decades of peace and economic cooperation among member states before turning back to its central worry, that a trade bloc has quietly become something closer to a government. The interviews carry the argument more than narration does.
