Four friends from Tipton in the English Midlands leave for a wedding and holiday in Pakistan in September 2001; two and a half years later, only three come home. The film reconstructs what happened between those two points using interviews with the men themselves, dramatized reenactments, and archive news footage, tracking their drift from Pakistan into Afghanistan, where they end up sheltering with Taliban fighters under fire from American aircraft. Captured by US forces, they are transferred to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba and held there for over two years without charge, before release. The film sits deliberately between documentary and drama, using actors to fill in scenes no camera recorded while letting the real Tipton Three narrate their own confusion and fear in their own words. It does not argue their innocence so much as lay out the sequence of small decisions and bad luck that turned a wedding trip into an indefinite detention, and lets the gap between the two speak for itself.
