On Thanksgiving Eve 1971, a man calling himself Dan Cooper boarded Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305, claimed to have a bomb, and demanded $200,000 in cash and four parachutes. He got both, released the passengers, then jumped from the rear stairs of the Boeing 727 somewhere over the Pacific Northwest and was never seen again. This film retraces the case through interviews with law enforcement officials and researchers who have spent decades chasing leads, from the partial ransom bills a boy found buried along the Columbia River years later to the competing theories about who Cooper really was and whether he survived the jump at all. It lays out the FBI's investigation, the suspects who have been named and cleared over the years, and the physical evidence that still does not add up. The case remains the only unsolved hijacking in American aviation history, and the film treats that fact as the real subject: a crime with a getaway but no ending.
