Journalist Rageh Omaar travels through Serbia and Bosnia to reconstruct those hidden years, tracking down people who knew Karadzic while he was in disguise and others who survived the massacres and shelling carried out under his command. The film moves between the years he spent hiding in plain sight and his trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, which was about to resume when this report aired. Omaar also asks what Karadzic still represents in the region: interviews in Republika Srpska capture supporters who see him as a defender of Serb interests, set against Bosniak communities still living with the aftermath of Srebrenica and the siege of Sarajevo.
