In Marseille's Quartiers Nord, drug trafficking and gang violence have become part of daily life, with dozens of deaths in recent years and little help from the French state. This film follows the people trying to hold the neighborhoods together anyway. Amine Kessaci, 21, founded the organization Conscience after losing family members to gang violence, and now campaigns for better conditions and supports other bereaved families. Doctor Slim Hadiji drives a converted firefighting bus through the estates, offering checkups, house calls, and health information to residents who otherwise get little medical care. At FCL Malpassé, a local football club, coaches keep the doors open around the clock, giving children a supervised place to go and, they hope, a way out. Shot on location in the high-rises and streets of northern Marseille, with interviews from residents, caregivers, and coaches, the film builds a picture of a community failed by official policy but not by its own people.
