Lance Dixon, a theoretical physicist at Stanford University, continues a three-part lecture on how scattering amplitudes in quantum field theory behave when particles become soft or collinear, limits that control much of the structure used in collider physics calculations. This installment, delivered as part of the Prospects in Theoretical Physics program, builds on the first two sessions and works through the technical machinery theorists use to organize these limits, including the factorization properties that let complicated amplitudes be broken into simpler universal pieces. Dixon is a leading figure in amplitude calculations for gauge theories, including work on N=4 super Yang-Mills and QCD, and the talk is aimed at an audience already familiar with the earlier parts of the series. Expect blackboard-style derivations and discussion of open problems in the field rather than an introductory overview, consistent with its place as the concluding part of a focused technical sequence.
