The 1918 influenza pandemic killed tens of millions worldwide, and this film looks at what came after the dying stopped. Framed explicitly against the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, it traces how societies rebuilt after the Spanish Flu swept through crowded cities, army camps, and rural towns with little warning and no vaccine. Historians and public health commentators walk through the economic disruption, the public health measures adopted at the time, and the slow return to normal life once infection rates finally fell. Rather than dwelling only on the death toll, the film's real interest is recovery: how quickly economies rebounded, what habits and institutions changed permanently, and what mistakes were repeated when memory of the pandemic faded. The comparison to the present pandemic runs throughout, used less as a scare tactic than as a way of asking what history actually predicts about the other side of a global outbreak.
