The Story of Celia & Sunrise: Stranded Freighters

Two cargo ships, the Celia and the Sunrise, sit run aground barely a hundred feet from the shoreline, and filmmaker Antoni Sendra turns his camera on the wreckage to piece together how they got there. The film moves along the rusted hulls and the sand around them, using the physical evidence of the stranding itself as the main source of information, since detailed records of the incident are scarce. Rather than a dramatized disaster narrative, this is a patient, observational record of what remains: corroded steel, exposed decks, and the strange sight of ocean-going vessels sitting on dry land close enough to walk to. The mystery of exactly how and why two freighters ended up here anchors the film's short runtime, and Sendra lets the stranded ships speak for themselves rather than relying on outside experts or narration to fill in gaps in the story.
