The Strange World of Breatharianism
Breatharianism holds that humans can survive without eating or even drinking water, sustained instead by light or prana. The film centers on Jasmuheen, the Australian woman who popularized the belief and claims to have gone years without solid food, and traces how her teachings spread into a small but devoted following. Interviews and archival material lay out the claims plainly: followers describing meals skipped for weeks, testimonials of transformation, and the deaths and hospitalizations that have followed some attempts to live by the practice. The film does not shy from the skepticism, presenting doctors and former believers who call the practice dangerous and Jasmuheen's public demonstrations questionable. What emerges is less a case for or against the belief than a portrait of why people are drawn to it, and how far conviction can carry someone past the point their body can safely follow.
