Saddam Hussein's fall from power ends not on a battlefield but in an Iraqi courtroom, and this film reconstructs how that trial actually happened. It draws on interviews with lawyers, judges, and officials involved in building the case against the former dictator, covering the killings in Dujail that formed the basis of the charges and the chaotic proceedings that followed, including the assassination of defense lawyers and the repeated walkouts and outbursts from Saddam and his co-defendants in the dock. The film goes behind the scenes of a legal process assembled from scratch in a country still at war, tracing the arguments over whether the tribunal could deliver real justice or was always going to end at the gallows. Officials describe the security risks of simply keeping the trial running, and the courtroom footage itself, Saddam defiant and combative to the end, carries as much weight as any of the commentary. The verdict was never really in doubt; how it got there is the story.
