High in the mountains of Laos, the Laovan family works fields, cooks, and raises children using methods passed down from their ancestors, with little visible change from one generation to the next. The film follows their daily routines: tending crops on steep terrain, gathering food, and maintaining a household cut off from the conveniences most viewers take for granted. Cameras stay close to the family rather than narrating over them, letting their labor and conversation carry the story of what it takes to live this way today.
