Tobaccoland & Underground Heroin Clinic

EN · STATUS: [ STREAMING ]

Two VICE reports on drugs and addiction, paired together. The first travels to Malang, Indonesia, where tobacco is a $100 billion industry with almost no regulation: two-thirds of men smoke, children as young as six light up in public, and cigarette advertising saturates daily life. VICE talks to smokers, industry workers, and public health advocates trying to push back against a business with enormous political weight. The second segment follows an underground clinic treating heroin addiction with ibogaine, a psychoactive plant compound banned in the United States but used elsewhere as an unconventional detox method. Cameras follow patients through the drug's intense, hallucinogenic withdrawal process and talk to the clinicians administering it outside any formal medical system, weighing its risks against the failures of conventional rehab. Both segments favor direct observation over narration, letting smokers, addicts, and practitioners explain their own reasoning on camera.
