Feuds inside Britain's Traveller community have produced shootings and stabbings that rarely make national news, and this film sets out the disputes behind them: land, marriage, debts, and old grudges that pass down through families and turn lethal. People who have lived through these conflicts, including some who have lost relatives to them, describe how a disagreement escalates when both sides answer to their own codes of honor rather than the police. The film also follows a separate strand of Traveller history, the New Age Traveller convoys of the 1980s and 90s, using footage from the Stonehenge Free Festivals, the 1985 Battle of the Beanfield, and the 1992 Castlemorton gathering to show a very different, more countercultural side of life on the road. Placing the two stories side by side makes clear how much variety sits under one label. No one here pretends to have solved the feuds; the film is content to let the people involved explain what keeps them going.
