Simon Leventhal has spent thirty years working as a dentist in New Jersey while pursuing photography as a serious hobby, mostly pointing his camera at wildlife and landscapes. This film turns to a different subject: the photographs he took of the Twin Towers from across the Hudson, images that shift from ordinary skyline shots to a record of catastrophe once the towers are attacked and fall. Leventhal talks through what he saw and shot from his New Jersey vantage point, describing the moment an amateur nature photographer became an accidental witness to a historic disaster. The film stays close to his personal account and his photographs rather than reconstructing the wider event, treating his images as a private, unofficial archive of September 11 taken from just across the river. It is a small, personal record of that day, built around one man's camera and his memory of what passed in front of it.
