Reporter Sahar Zand travels to Mauritania, where obesity has long been prized as a marker of beauty and marriage readiness for women. In nomad camps in the Sahara she visits tents where girls as young as six are force-fed up to 16,000 calories a day by older female relatives, and in the capital, Nouakchott, amid the country's worst drought in five years, she finds women taking veterinary drugs meant to fatten camels and pigs in pursuit of the same look. The second half of the film shifts to Nicaragua, where President Daniel Ortega's government has moved against independent media during a period of civil unrest and economic collapse. Zand meets journalists who face beatings or worse for reporting the news, alongside others who have chosen to leave the country rather than keep working under threat.
