A team of young investigators travels the country checking on America's electronic voting infrastructure, asking a blunt question: can touchscreen voting machines be trusted with an election. The film follows them from polling places to election offices as they test claims that these systems can be hacked, and lay out how little independent verification exists once a vote is cast on a touchscreen with no paper trail. Election officials, security researchers, and voters give their accounts of what oversight actually looks like at the local level, where the machines get bought, installed, and used without much scrutiny. The film's case is procedural rather than partisan: it is less concerned with who wins any particular race than with whether the counting itself can be checked at all. It plays like an investigative road trip, moving state to state to show that the vulnerabilities are not isolated to one machine or one county but built into how the country adopted the technology in the first place.
