Nearly 25 million people face acute food shortages in Sudan, a war the aid community says now outstrips the combined crises of Ukraine, Gaza and Somalia, yet it barely registers in international news. DW correspondent Mariel Müller gets rare access by embedding with the Sudanese army under permission from army chief Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan's forces, traveling into Khartoum, where the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces led by Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo hold large stretches of territory. Since fighting broke out in 2023 between the two former allies, 12 million people, about a quarter of the country, have been driven from their homes. The film follows soldiers through contested streets and shows civilians caught between the two forces, with little food, medicine or safety. Müller's footage from inside the war zone, something almost no foreign journalist has managed, is the film's core value, documenting a conflict most of the world has not seen and that shows no sign of ending.
