Groundwater is dropping while consumption keeps climbing, and this DW film follows the engineers and scientists trying to close that gap. In Hamburg, project engineer Dorothea Mergel works on a pilot system that reroutes gray water from showers and sinks into toilets and garden irrigation, sparing drinking water for actual drinking. In Tunisia, where summer temperatures hit 45 degrees Celsius, agricultural scientist Dr. Bellachheb Chahbani visits olive farmers to install a traditional irrigation method he adapted to cut water use by 70 percent. At Carlsberg's brewery in Fredericia, Denmark, water conservationist Andreas Kirketerp shows how a recycling system reclaims water used to clean bottles, cans, and tanks, saving 1,800 cubic meters a day, roughly what 14,000 people use. The film moves between these three sites and specialists to build a practical case for what households, farms, and factories can each do differently, without pretending any single fix solves the larger shortage.
