Welcome To Planet Earth: UFO Welcome Center Bowman
In the small town of Bowman, South Carolina, Jody Pendarvis built a thirty-foot flying saucer in his front yard after what he says was a sighting of alien life forms. He calls it the UFO Welcome Center, a structure meant to give visiting extraterrestrials somewhere to land and feel at home. The film follows Pendarvis around his property and through the town, letting him explain the sighting that started it all, the construction of the saucer, and his plans for what happens when contact finally comes. Neighbors and passersby weigh in on the structure sitting incongruously among ordinary front yards, and the camera lingers on the homemade craft itself, its patched metal skin and jury-rigged dome a monument to one man's conviction. There is no debunking and no mockery here, just a plain look at a small-town eccentric who has spent years preparing for a visitor who has not yet arrived. It is a portrait of belief as much as a portrait of a UFO.
