Every year in the Faroe Islands, hundreds of pilot whales and dolphins are killed in the Grindadráp, a hunt that in September 2021 took more than 1,400 animals in a single day. Journalist Christian Blenker travels to the islands with filmmaker Matthias Sdun after seeing footage of the hunt that he calls horrifying, wanting to understand why men still wade into bloodied water with knives and harpoons to kill animals many people around the world consider intelligent and social. He talks to whalers and their families, who divide the meat among themselves for their own consumption rather than selling it commercially, even though authorities warn against eating it because of high mercury levels. The film follows Blenker's search for an answer to his own question, and by the end he arrives at one he says he did not expect. Interviews with hunters sit alongside footage of the hunt itself, letting both the practice and its defenders speak for themselves.
